Vision

The vision of 1Data is to create a Structured Environment for Animal Data and Simulation (SEADS), a key enabling technology for regional translational medicine efforts. 1Data will bring together pre-clinical human and animal health data to develop a cohesive and structured environment to collect and disseminate information, which will improve the quality of human and animal health through improved, refined, and enhanced collaborative research and education.

Goals

1Data supports the first goal from the KCALSI Animal Health working group, to “Develop a computational concept to advance translational medicine approaches for human and animal health.”

The goals for the project are:

  • to develop a never-before-created platform that will be a unique regional asset
  • to begin sharing data across human and animal health
  • to create a unique training environment for translational health partners
  • to enhance collaborative research efforts and improve innovation

Supporting Translational Research Using a One Health Framework

The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute (KCALSI) developed a regional vision, “Path to 2025,” which stated that the Kansas City region is a global leader at the nexus of human and animal health benefiting all citizens and the economy. 1Data is a One Health initiative that will help bring about this vision through translational research – moving innovation from the bench to the bedside and from animals to humans.

Creating a simulation environment with associated cleaned and available back-end databases will enable a framework for collaborative research regionally, nationally, and globally – creating a robust environment in the Kansas City region for businesses and researchers engaged in translational medicine. 1Data will help move animal health data into the human health sphere, and provide knowledge directly to improve human and animal health and welfare.
